This course will teach how to create a basic landscape using atmospheric perspective. Several ways to draw an image onto a canvas will be discussed. The value of light and contrast will be discussed and demonstrated, as well as the value of light and contrast. The learner will learn how light and dark values can create the illusion of space in a painting. Additionally the learner will see how to mix colors and create layers that one can build on and give texture and depth to the painting. The terms Value and Atmospheric Perspective will be defined and discussed throughout the course.
A learner can choose how much detail they want to add to the painting – they can stop at any point but will be encouraged to continue on as the mountains in the painting will have more depth and color as they continue to add more detail. The course begins with a discussion of the definitions of value and atmospheric perspective, and then shows how to create an Underpainting before beginning, and why that is important. Then the learner will be given a choice of painting from a printed photogragh, or using the display from a phone, tablet or computer monitor.
